The Dough Hook is owned by Marlena Ballinger who took over the family business from her parents in September of 2013.
The Dough Hook was started by John and Sharon Calvelage. They got their start by regularly selling baked goods at the Bluffton Farmer’s Market and after much success, they decided to take it to the next level. After a stressful day at work, Sharon had her fill. She decided to throw caution to the wind and purchase the former Town and Country Meats building. She knew this was the spot to make her dream a reality. After some gentle nudging, John was on board! The Dough Hook was born and began operating in October of 2008.
After five successful years, they decided to retire by selling the business to their daughter. Marlena is a recent graduate of Bluffton University’s BCOMP program and was excited to take on this successful business opportunity! She frequently worked with her parents at The Dough Hook which made it an easy transition.
She is excited to continue to offer fresh, yummy, made from scratch baked goods and fresh cut meats. Her number one priority continues to be good customer service and fresh products!
